One teenage boy was found dead just days after being falsely accused of taking the ashes of a dead infant during a break-in, an inquest has learned.

Heartbreaking Discovery

Kai Lloyd's mother and father found his remains in his bedroom at his Flintshire home on November 19th, 2021.

Untrue Allegations Start

The investigation learned how his mother got a communication on November 8th, 2021 via social media, from a individual asking if her son was her offspring. The communication stated: "Tell him thanks for burgling my flat."

In a statement read to the court, the mother said the individual had been in the media, claiming her infant's ashes had been taken in a break-in - a claim which was untrue.

Law Enforcement Inquiry

An investigation report from police later determined the alleged burglary complainant had "lied to police" and "evidence shows that the property was not stolen in the beginning".

News coverage about the supposed stolen remains attracted social media comments, and although the teenager was not identified in the messages, his mother said people "knew it was him".

The "online posts were extremely distressing", she stated.

Mental Health Effect

She added that Kai had been diagnosed with mild ADHD, and as part of that disorder, other peoples' opinions really were important to him.

"This must have hurt him deeply," she said, "especially when this was not true".

Kai was arrested at home, but no evidence was found. He was taken to a police station and later freed under investigation.

Police said they would be in contact, the inquest heard, but had not reached out to the relatives by the moment of his death.

Withdrawal and Anxiety

His mother said Kai "became isolated" after the detention and "would keep asking me whether I had received anything from the authorities", because his condition meant sometimes "certain periods could seem like days".

When she talked to him about the alleged burglary, she said her son told her he had gone into the house because the woman who resided there had said he could utilize the bathroom anytime he needed, but denied removing anything.

Online Harassment

In a joint statement between her and her husband, Mrs Lloyd said her son was being harassed online after the allegations.

The inquest learned that a 19-year-old urged Kai to end his life.

She had no concerns on the evening before he passed away, describing how she had heard him "chuckling and joking".

She portrayed him as a "caring, affectionate" young man, and said her "family is totally shattered".

He had been "obviously concealing his concerns", she stated, adding that he could not bear to have anyone "have negative thoughts of him".

Educational Reaction

The hearing heard from educational personnel at the local secondary school.

On November 8th, she "heard some students discussing that Kai had been arrested and that was the initial I heard".

"He informed me... he'd was innocent," she added.

After the conversation, the educator said she rang Kai's family telephone and provided a message saying she had spoken to the student about the allegations.

The court heard his family said they did not receive that communication.

Formal Finding

Lead coroner informed the inquest he would await documents regarding what enhancements had been made to dealing with individuals with ADHD, before deciding whether he should make a prevention of subsequent deaths report.

Delivering a descriptive conclusion, he said: "Approximately 8 November 2021, unsupported accusations were made against the teenager, a 14-year-old child.

"Likely untruths were subsequently embellished and amplified through the medium of online networks.

"On 11 November, he was questioned by the police and following his interview he was released whilst inquiries continued."

The coroner concluded: "Exists no proof that the acts or omissions of any organization caused or added to his passing and although it was the result of a self-inflicted act it is not possible to determine his purpose."
